Yes! It's Free!!

First off, I want to thank everyone who came to our Holiday Party and made it another rousing success!

Let's face it, everyone love's free stuff, right?  I mean who doesn't like getting free stuff?  Even better, how about something free that might actually change your life? (and change it dramatically for the better!)

With that in mind, we decided to introduce a little program at the Holiday Party called "Pay it Forward".  It's quite simple really, most patients who come to our office have heard about us from a friend or family member, someone they work with etc. In other words, most patients are referred by other patients (and if you have referred someone in the past…..thank you!)

If you read the last several newsletters, I wrote about how only 1% of the people eligible for bariatric surgery actually get the surgery.  To me it seems tragic that so many people are suffering needlessly with morbid obesity and all the associated medical problems, particularly when there is a very effective solution, namely bariatric surgery!

I know from having spoken with so many patients over the years that many people don't pursue surgery because they have inaccurate information or misconceptions about bariatric surgery (in fact one of the reasons I write this newsletter is to get accurate information about bariatric surgery out there!).  We are so passionate about this, that we are willing to give away thousands of dollars in office visits in order for patients to come in and find out the actual facts about this surgery and what it would mean for them, and if they would benefit.

The voucher you see above is our "Pay it Forward" voucher and everyone who came to the party got one.  You can give it to anyone you like and it entitles them to a free consultation at our office to see if this surgery is something that will make a difference in their life.  Don't worry if you didn't come to the party we'll be happy to send you one…or even several.  Just call the office and let us know we'll send  you as many as you like or you can email me at: and I'll see you get as many as you need.

Let's make sure that 2013 is the year that the people in your life get the gift of health.  The voucher is only good until March 31, 2013 so if you know someone who would benefit from this surgery feel free to give them a voucher for a free consultation….maybe it's true, the best things in life really are free!

Have a Happy and Healthy Holiday season and New Year!

The Venetian is a beautiful place. This is my second visit, and both have been for the annual holiday party thrown by Garden State Bariatrics. It's such a juxtaposition to be at an All You Can Eat buffet in a room with 500 plus weight loss enthusiasts.

But looking around, we all seem to be controlling ourselves.

So the group at my table includes a woman that had bypass 3 years ago and her husband. There's a woman that's scheduled to have her band surgery next month. Her husband and 12 year old son are here with her. They are all 3 so excited.

I asked her if she had researched her proteins. She had not. I cringed for her. It took me so long to determine which protein supplements I would tolerate. I knew that my success hinged on my being able to take in my protein, so I started months before my surgery.

I gave her a few websites that I came to depend on while we sat at the table. I failed to give her my phone number, so I only did half my job.

Lesson learned.

So, I told you that I would be at the party and welcomed the opportunity to say hello. What I didn't expect was that Dr. Bilof called me to the floor to hand me an appreciation plaque for my contributions to the newsletter. I was surprised, honored, and a little overwhelmed. I didn't even hear the applause from the crowd as walked over to shake the Drs' hands.

Immediately thereafter, a woman walked over to shake MY hand. SHUT UP!! I know!!! She said "when she gets to a low point, the article is always encouraging.". Folks, that made my night … that I was able to impact someone's success by capturing a handful of my random thoughts.

We talked at the table about successes and life habit changes. You have to do it. Weight Loss Surgery, in case I haven't mentioned it, requires a lifestyle change. Sometimes it is hard. Sometimes old habits rear their ugly head. Sometimes you need something to remind yourself "I'm not alone".

Tonight, I was surrounded by hundreds of those reminders, and I was proud to be one of your own.

Let's talk more!! I'm the meantime, follow me.

See you next year?

I see every "follow". I read every comment. And I will respond to direct messages. It is my HONOR to do so.

Patients are frequently asking for suggestions on how to keep track of what they eat and how they know the mix of what is in what they eat – Protein, Sodium, Fiber,Carbs, Good and Bad Fats) especially when they are out or do not have access to the labels of the food they are eating.  If you want a mobile application to assist you when on the run, out eating or just like having it at your fingertips at all times…there is a Free Smartphone App called "LOSE IT!" that I have been suggesting to patients as an option to work the menu and menu the work for before, during and after surgery.  I have reviewed the app and find it to be a good way to help you work your plan.

If you are using it now – would love to hear how it is working for you.

We are not associated with the app in any way or receive any compensation for recommending the application 🙂 –
