January 2009 - Century Club Update

Here it is the first “Century Club” Update of 2009

I know it’s been a while since my last newsletter, and even longer since my last “Century Club” update.  To those of you new to the newsletter (we’ve added many subscribers over the last several months) let me explain what the Century Club is.

The idea started with a conversation I had with a patient.  They were in the office for their routine post operative visit.  They were relating to me how proud they were about the progress they had made, and that they had managed to lose over 100 lbs.  I thought, wouldn’t it be nice to publicly acknowledge patients who had lost over 100 lbs….and so the Century Club was born.  The criteria for admission to this club is real simple….lose over 100 lbs and you’re in!  The way things are going however, I might have to start a double or maybe even triple century club!

For people reading this who have not yet had surgery, let me try to give you a sense of what it is like to lose one hundred lbs.  Imagine I put 100 lbs into a backpack and strapped it to your back and told you to walk around with it for a day,  how tired would you be?  Well if you are morbidly obese you are carrying around, at least 100 extra lbs….imagine how much energy you will have once you take that 100 lbs off!  That’s what you have to look forward to.

Since my last update was in September of last year I have a bunch of people to add to the list.  If I missed your name, please let me know so I can add you to the next update.

Reading thru the list the thing I would like to draw your attention to, is not just the weight lost but the improvement in people’s well being.  I hope that sense of improved well being comes thru….patients off medications and feeling better than ever is really the most important outcome.

Support Group:

On Wednesday February 25th we have a plastic surgeon, Joseph Fodero, for the speaker at our support group.  This is always a popular topic, so if plastic surgery is something you are considering you may want to come and check it out.  It will be at 200 South Orange Ave, Livingston, NJ, which is the Ambulatory Care Center (ACC) starting at 6 pm.

Today’s end quote is something I need to remind myself of from time to time,

“Remember this—very little is needed to make a happy life”
Marcus Aurelius

Thanks for reading and trusting me with your healthcare,
